Lesson 8 - Tools to Speed Drawing Constructions

Lesson Summary:

This lesson will give you practice in using modify tools like CHAMFER, MIRROR and OFFSET.  These tools further emphasise the drawing process of using the Draw tools to construct the basic shapes and using the modify tools to quickly and accurately edit and duplicate lines or sections of the objects.  These modify tools also reinforce the basic mantra of CAD, "never draw anything twice".

Learning Objectives:

When you have completed this lesson, you will be able to:

  1. Use the CHAMFER Command to create chamfer features on objects in AutoCAD.
  2. Use the MIRROR command to mirror objects in a drawing. Change the MIRRTEXT system variable and observe the effect on mirrored text objects.
  3. Use the OFFSET command to create copies of geometry parallel and offset to their original objects in AutoCAD.

Lesson Activities:

Watch each of these videos and completed the demonstrated Project to complete this Lesson.

  1. VIDEO - Using the CHAMFER Command
  2. PROJECT 8.1 - LOCATOR PLATE
  3. VIDEO - Using the MIRROR Command
  4. PROJECT 8.2 - SHEET METAL STAMPLING
  5. VIDEO - Using the OFFSET Command
